Abstract

|
Purpose: The objective of this study was to investigate the recognition and attitude of the head of communal(Dong and Ri) for the purpose of facilitating the implementation of the community mental health service in G City. Methods: The Data were collected from the questionnaires returned by 377 subjects, who were Dong heads and Ri heads at G City, from Nov. 17, 2008 to Feb. 28, 2009. The instruments used were the recognition of the community mental health and the Community Attitudes Toward the Mentally Ill Inventory(CAMI). Collected data were analyzed with the SPSS program using descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, t-test, Pearson’s correlation coefficient Results: The results were as follows. The mean score of the heads of Dong region was significantly higher than that of the heads of Ri region in recognition of establishment in mental health facilities. The mean score of the heads of Dong region was significantly higher than that of the heads of Ri region in anti-authoritarian power, non-regulation of social life and positive concept of mental health out of attitude toward mentality handicapped. There was a significant correlation between subjects’ recognition of mental health problem and attitude toward mentality handicapped. The major factors that affected subjects’ attitude toward mentality handicapped were gender, age, residential district, educational background, experience of previous psychiatric therapy and recognitive capacity of community mental health problem. Conclusion: For the stabilization and successful implementation of the community mental health service, it is necessary to enlighten the recognition and attitude on the community mental health of the head of communal.
